Community and Child Development
As our name implies, FHI focuses on poverty needs that relate to food and nutrition. Our primary emphasis is on long-term development among the extremely poor, recognizing their dignity, creativity, and ability to solve their own problems. We focus on:

What We Do

Advocacy and Information
In collaboration with its National Support Organisations, FHI seeks to inform people in the more affluent countries about the causes of hunger and poverty as well as appropriate responses and solutions, including free training resources.

Through a partnership with the US-based organization Harvest, our staff provide training on various aspects of biblical worldview and the churches role in relieving the plight of people suffering from poverty and hunger. The partnership has also resulted in the formation of the Disciple Nations Alliance.

Relief and Rehabilitation
National Support Organisations and FHI Field Offices lead responses to both natural disasters and complex (man-made) humanitarian emergencies. Operations can last a short time (in the case of a natural disaster) or extend several years (in the case of complex humanitarian emergencies involving war, displacement, and refugees). FHI Relief and Rehabilitation programmes normally focus on three main areas of specialisation:

Sending People
In addition to employing host country national staff and expatriates, FHI has a unique programme called "Hunger Corps" which provides an opportunity for experienced and qualified people who are able to raise their own support to share their knowledge and skills with the poor. Also through Hunger Corps, inexperienced people can gain valuable field experience, equipping them for careers 'n Relief and Development or as advocates back in their home countries. Hunger Corps staff are sent out by their corresponding National Support Organization.
