NEWS FROM
SOROJCHI
The Sorojchi zone consists of ten communities spread along the banks
of the Tomoyo River. FHI entered the zones nearly ten years ago
with health, agriculture, and natural resource programs in response
to high levels of poverty and malnutrition. The community makes
a living predominantly through subsistance farming. Since 1995,
the zone has seen income levels increase by more than double with
the introduction of an irrigation system that reaches over 400 families.
There
is currently no electricity available in the zone, but plans are
underway for it to be installed by the end of 2006. Plans are also
underway for potable water systems. A complete high school serves
all communities within walking distance of the community of Tomoyo.
Sorojchi
is a two hour drive from the city of Sucre. The following programs
currently work in the zone:
Income Generation, Natural
Resources, and Health,
Water & Sanitation.
More
information on this zone will be available soon. Visit us again
for the updates.
