The community of Hornoma has a school that goes up to the eighth grade. They have so many students that they were using their library as a classroom for the eighth graders. This year, a team from Southland Church came down to spend eight days in the community helping construct a new, more spacious library for the students. Two of the team members and a community worker are shown in the photo to the left.
Some of the kids also got in on the action long enough for a photo. Some of the older students chipped in to help sift sand and wheelbarrow materials to the site.
Here are a few photos of the newly finished library before its inauguration. It was built with extra large windows facing the front to let in more light and with a curved back wall to fit curved book shelves to house the library inventory.

The inauguration of the library was on September 26th, 2002. The community expressed their thanks with large wreaths for each member representing FHI and the municipality who both participated in the construction. To the left is the director standing on the doorstep of the new library. Above right is the signing of the official inauguration papers. Below right is Juan Jose with two of the Hornoma professors.
Thank you Linda, Clark, Otie, Jerri, and Lisa for your hard work in making this library happen! The professors, leaders, and students asked that we send on their thanks and their invitation to visit again sometime soon!
