A non-stock non-profit organization registered in the Philippines under the Security and Exchange Commission. It aims to support and help children living in urban and rural depressed communities. It is committed to empower their parents and other community members to overcome poverty through integrated self-development programs. Our ministry is holistic aimed at making the Kingdom of God visible in people's lives and the community. HISTORYFood for the Hungry International/Philippines started in 1979 to assist 25 Vietnamese refugee children settled at Sta. Isabel College, Taft Ave., Manila through Child Development Program (CDP). When the Philippine Government adopted the refugee families and resettled them to Morong, Bataan, sponsorship was transferred to Filipino indigent children. Mrs. Ester Pangindian, who has been Director of the Social Welfare of Christian Children's Fund, Inc, started Food for the Hungry in the Philippines. In 1991, the Food for the Hungry International appointed Mrs. Elsa Tuason as Country Director and Mrs. Debbie Sayo-Toribio as Manager of Operation's and Training. When Mrs. Tuason retired as Country Director, Mrs. Debbie Sayo-Toribio was appointed Country Director. FHI/Philippines was registered in August 1992 at the Security and Exchange Commission. FHI/Philippines received its license to operate as an agency through The Department of Social Welfare and Development last February 13, 1997 and last July 20,2000 was accredited by DSWD as a Community-Based Services for Children.
