BACOOR, CAVITE CENTER The communities of LANAI and SULOK-LAWIN are a government relocation site for the poor families of Municipality of Kawit in the province of Cavite. The community has an area of 2 hectares more or less. Majority of the residents came from Visayas and some from Northern Luzon. FHI assists a total of 200 sponsored children in the community of Barangay Mangahan community of Lawin (Lanai and Sulok). LOCATIONThe communities of LANAI and SULOK-LAWIN in Barangay Manggahan is one of the relocation areas of the Municipality of Kawit. Approximately one kilometer from the main road could be reached by any transport venicles. PHYSICAL FEATURESLANAI and SULOK-LAWIN are poor communities with approximately 500 families. Houses are made up of makeshift or as what others called Barong-barong. Some homes were built on concrete but not complete because it was included in the Municipal Plan. Others live near the river and others live under the bridges beside esteros. The community is muddy specially when it rains. ETHNICITY AND LANGUAGETagalog, Visayan and some from Ilocos and Bicol region composed the community. Tagalog, Visayan, and Ilocano dialects are spoken in the area. SITUATION OF COMMUNITY
SITUATION OF CHILDRENSpiritual SituationChildren does not know how to red/use the Bible. Families do not have Bible in their homes. Children at their early age uttered curse and very quarrelsome. Children are also using Catholic norms and practices. Intellectual/Vocational SituationSome children could not attend school because their parents do not have enough means to support them. Financial support from parents is lacking. The parents did not attend school activities. This has been a factor why children do not have interest in their studies. Social/Moral SituationChildren are confined in their community and school. They are exposed to Social, Moral and Economic problem thus, carrying responsibilities for the needs. Physical/Health SituationMajority of the children in the community have coughs and colds and they are prone to asthma. Lack of finances hinders them to be treated by the doctor. Congested, dirty and polluted air is a factor of their heart problems. Emotional SituationThe emotional state of the children could be said as unstable. Some looks matured because of early exposure to problems and inadequate nutrition. Their unruly behavior can be moved to their environment and community exposure.
