Child Development Program Day 2004 (Everybody's Birthday)

FHI/Phils. Annual Child Development Day (CDP Day) celebration was held at the Ninoy Aquino Tract/Football Stadium last June 10, 2004.  The entire CDP sponsored children gathered together for the sports fest event from 8:00 am till 6:00 in the afternoon.

To start the program, children in each CDP Center paraded in their various colorful uniforms inside the stadium with banners indicating the name of their respective CDP Centers.  It was a very orderly and solemn parade as the children wave their hands upon reaching the stage area where guests and FHI officers and staff were seated.  Lighting of the torch performed by each CDP center representative culminated the parade.

Various sports events conducted where 50 and 100 meters dash, tug of war, relay (8/50), discuss throw, long jump, obstacle course and cheering competition.  In the afternoon, parlor games were conducted such as sack race, egg catching, and food relay.

Significant part of the event is the celebration of Everybody’s birthday.  One of the pastors from FHI partner churches gave the message to the children on the importance of relationship to our Lord Jesus Christ.  He invited those children present who do not have any relationship with Him to welcome Jesus in their lives.  Through a prayer of acceptance approximately 100 children accepted Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.  The pastor declared that CDP would be a memorable event in their lives because it represented their second birthday.

The event culminated by the distribution of prizes to all the winners.  FHI was able to solicit groceries, trophies, and medals to the delight of the children.  Also FHI distributed to all sponsored children blankets as birthday gifts.

Happiness could be seen in the eyes of the children as they tried their best to win the prize.  It was a good learning experience for them.  They learn to accept defeat and be a good sport even if they did not win in the competition.

The event was a success.  The children will remember the experience as long as they live.
