The Samaritan Strategy Movement Philippines (SSMP) held a conference on Vision for Holistic Ministry for the Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches of the Philippines (CAMACOP) April 29-May 3 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Assembly, Kinuskusan, Bansalan, Davao del Sur. About 69 church leaders based in Mindanao composed mostly of pastors and faculty of Bible schools of CAMACOP attended the conference.

Debbie Toribio, Country Director of Food for the Hungry International/ Philippines (FHI/P), Dr. Reynaldo Taniajura of WCG and Rev. Percival Gregorio of United Methodist Church led the conference. Staff-facilitators were FHP's Thelma Miguel, Ma. Luz Garcia and Chill Fortunado, and WCG's Tess Asuit and Arlan Aquino. Ptr. Len Joson, area coordinator for WCG-Mindanao, Ptr. Joel Alisbo, pastor of WCG Bukidnon, and Syria Aquino assisted the SSMP team.

The conference grew out of the efforts of Bishop Reniel Joel Nebab, vice president of CAMACOP and head of the denomination's Division of General and Theological Education, and Dr. Peter Malvicini, a former professor of CAMACOP's Alliance Biblical Seminary located in Quezon City. Both Rev. Nebab and Prof. Malvicini  saw the need for their churches and leaders to look at two areas:

     (1) to operate from a worldview that is both biblical and comprehensive, and

     (2) to minister holistically in their communities. These are the two areas, which SSMP seeks to address.

Samaritan Strategy promotes the concept that the Great Commission impacts all aspects of life and all levels of society. It affirms that God's primary agency to transform communities and nation's is the local church. The local church, Samaritan Strategy says, fulfills God's purpose for it by demonstrating God's love and discipling all nations.

Dr. Ben de Jesus, one of the first four CAMACOP denominational leaders who were invested with the title of Bishop, warmly welcomed the concepts taught by SSMP. As an active participant in the conference, Dr. de Jesus remarked that SSMP's ministry could greatly help the Zamboanga City ministerial fellowship. He is currently serving as president of one of CAMACOP's Bible schools in Mindanao, the Ebenezer Bible College.
