The programs run by FHI
Community Development began in Romania after 1991, in
the city of Curtea de Arges, but under a different organization.
In 1996, FHI Community Development
foundation was legalized in Romania and continued the programs already
developed at that time by the other NGO.
Programs included such things as:
-
Development of the private agricultural sector
through founding a Farmers Chamber Association, a Farmers Fair Association
and the construction of greenhouses in Noaptes village
-
Development of the private economical sector
through founding a Business Development Chamber
-
Donations of supplies, food and medical equipment
-
Educational programs for youth and children
-
4H-like program for youth
-
Assisting in the construction of a Christian
Community Center, in Curtea de Arges.
After 1998, FHI Community
Development went through a transition period of time
with changes in its activity and approach. These changes led to an emphasis
in: family development, local church development (different denominations)
and of the development of local leaders.
The strategies adopted at that time included:
- influencing new Romanian partners with similar goals
- supporting the programs of community development
- placing International Staff (IS) who were competent in areas where
partners had a need
- educational programs in community development from a theistic approach.
Currently, FHI Community
Development has its ministries in different areas in
Romania, in partnership with Romanian and foreign organizations.
